Modern advocacy must also be somewhat traditional.

In the new episode of the Best Lawyers podcast, we continue our mini-series introducing elite lawyers who are running for seats on the board of the Czech Bar Association (ČAK). The elections will take place during the association's assembly on October 3. Representatives of the Modern Advocacy platform, specifically Kamil Blažek, partner at Kinstellar, Pavla Krejčí, attorney at DBK Partners, and Barbora Vlachová, lead attorney at Portos, came to the podcast to discuss their platform for running for seats on the board.

The Modern Advocacy Platform has put together its own list of candidates for the CBA board elections, with the aim of ensuring that the legal profession remains strong, independent, and ethical, ready to face the challenges of the 21st century. However, this does not mean that its representatives must swear by modernity at all costs.

Pavla Krejčí considers herself both a modern and traditional lawyer. "I am not opposed to the use of modern technologies; on the contrary, I see enormous potential in them, but at the same time, I share traditional values to a certain extent," she says at the outset.

Technology fan Barbora Vlachová has a fairly clear idea of what modern advocacy should entail. "The name of our platform has become traditional, so we are keeping it. But when it comes to the goal of modern law, it includes both traditional topics and a step forward. Specifically, in the case of the ČAK, this means that the chamber should be a true partner to law firms, even when it comes to revolutionary technological changes," Vlachová presents her idea.

It is worth mentioning that Kamil Blažek has been a member of the CBA's board of directors for the last eight years, and since October 2023, he has been a full member, so in his case, it is a matter of defending his position. Blažek describes himself as an "old-fashioned modern lawyer."

According to him, neither tradition nor the current world can be ignored. "We live in a modern world, and it is impossible to do without current technologies, monitoring trends, new ways of thinking, and new perspectives. On the other hand, old-fashionedness is important in the legal profession. Both the legal profession and the ČAK are social institutions, and their modernization should be an evolutionary process, not a revolutionary one," Blažek believes.
