On Sunday evening, Olomouc hosted the second annual PORTOS Open Air festival, which symbolically welcomed law students to the new academic year. The event, organized by the law firm Portos in cooperation with the Faculty of Law at Palacký University, featured a vibrant program full of music, dance, and games, created in collaboration with creatives from the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (ČNSO). The festival took place on the grounds of the Faculty of Law.
"We first tested this welcome event for our students, organized in cooperation with the renowned law firm Portos, last year. I am convinced it was more than successful. I’m therefore very glad it took place again this year. For our students, it’s not only an enjoyable way to start the academic year, but above all an unconventional opportunity to get to know our strong partner. I greatly appreciate the connection between our faculty and the Portos law firm and I look forward to further cooperation on other activities throughout the newly beginning academic year," says Václav Stehlík, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Palacký University in Olomouc.
The event, which once again attracted hundreds of spectators from among students and the general public, featured a range of names from the domestic alternative scene. A unique highlight was the collaboration between singer Marina Laduda and rapper Sia Sai. Their joint performance was accompanied by Slovak DJ Cut Dem and Czech National Symphony Orchestra guitarist Lukáš Chejn. The band Bio Trio balanced genres between funk, jazz, and soul. After dark, a light show by the artistic group Firelovers followed the musical acts.
In addition, students could take part in competitions for special prizes, which were presented by representatives of both the Portos law firm and the Faculty of Law at UP.
"Last year, we brought our festival for law students to Olomouc for the first time and confirmed that such events are meaningful. That's why we are glad we managed to build on last year’s success in cooperation with the faculty and the Dean. We enjoy returning here, because Olomouc is full of young talents and excellent academics in the field of law," explains Petr Michal, partner at the Portos law firm.
Another Portos partner, Jakub Hollmann, added: "It’s important for us to stay in contact with young legal professionals and absorb their perspective on our shared field. This event is a great opportunity to support them not only professionally, but also in exploring culture. Alongside law, culture is one of our core values. Our firm has a long-standing cooperation with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, whose members also contributed to the preparation of this event."
PORTOS Open Air vol. II seamlessly followed last year’s edition of the party, subtitled "Don't be afraid of music and law", which welcomed around 400 guests. That program also involved the Moravian Theatre Olomouc and featured talented acts such as Noisy Pots and the Operave project. A central idea of the festival is to showcase the boundless possibilities of artistic creativity.
The festival aims to open new ways to connect culture with the world of law, especially for young, talented legal minds. The collaboration between the Portos law firm and the Faculty of Law at UP in Olomouc has left a strong cultural imprint, and it is likely that such events will become a tradition, enriching both the academic and cultural environment in Olomouc.
